Leave room for the weird.

A project becomes memorable when one detail refuses to behave like the others. Not chaos. Just a deliberate fracture in the grid.

Uniformity is rarely the goal

Consistency is useful until it starts bleaching the work.

The best projects I return to always have one element that feels almost inconvenient:

  • a title treatment that is a little too large
  • a margin that feels suspiciously generous
  • a note in the corner that changes the tone of the whole page
  • a color block that arrives like a stage light

That is the weirdness I care about. Not noise. Not novelty. A controlled break in the pattern.

Why it matters

The weird detail acts like a signature. It tells you there is an editor in the room.

And once you feel the editor, the rest of the system gets stronger.
